Got my new tires delivered yesterday. It’s a set of Achilles ATR Sport 2, 245/45R18. I hadn’t heard of the brand before but they got excellent reviews online, with the only complaints being that they aren’t good in snow and only last 30-45k miles. Plus at $68/tire, they’re super cheap. Now for my new wheels, they should be coming Friday or Saturday!

I wonder if they opted for the road hazard coverage... Desert Shield.

Branding a critical component Achilles that goes anywhere near the “feet” of a car seems like a terrible idea, and one very susceptible for satire if something goes wrong.

Nice. I’ve got an appointment for this weekend to have 4 Nitto 420s’ put on the FX45. Not quite the deal you got, and also n ot great in snow, but hoping they're a suitable replacement for the nearly bald Toyo Proxes that are on it now.

They aren’t good in snow, who is trying to drive these in snow? Otherwise looks like a solid summer tire.

Neat! I got a "new" tire yesterday as well. I should have paid more attention when I was grabbing it from the junkyard, though, because it's a 175/60 and my other three are 170/65. It's visibly fatter.

They’re marketed as an ultra-high performance all-season, so you would expect it to be decent in all-seasons

they should be significantly more grippy than my Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Tourings, even if they won’t last nearly as long

I drive my BFG GeForce comp 2’s in below freezing and wet weather but I’d die if it was snowy or icy. Solid tread blocks are not your friend in any kind of snow.

The manufacturer themselves categorize them as “summer” tyres, not all season like their actual all-season 868 All Seasons. They’re marketed as all-season on the american market because it works that way is my guess...

That’s very true. At least I don’t really have to drive when it’s snowy or icy and we don’t get a lot here in Southern MO

I put Achilles ATR Sport on the Rally project. They were cheap and round.. and
checked all the boxes..

How were they? Obviously I’d expect the sequel to be a little better but still similar enough

You know they were pretty decent, gripped well, quiet ride, cost was under $400 for four 215/60R16 installed so they were by far the cheapest all season ‘performance’ tire I could find.
Also did surprisingly well on gravel.. Had them for two summers on the car before selling it and they still looked brand new.
It was a project rally car though, so just for fun,
and a 2
minute
daily commute
, and only ever just me in the car.. Forester and Tacoma that carry my family around have Michelin or Bridgestones..

I just upgraded from Yokohama S.Drive 215F 225R to Falken Azenis FK510+ 225F 255R, and the difference has been dramatic. 10k miles will be good for me, it’s the “when it’s nice out during the summer” car so that should last 5 years or so
Though the S.Drives were old and heat cycled enough to be like pencil erasers

Not hand y apparently, but it’s an ‘03. Black exterior, black interior, factory silver 20's (non chrome). I like it.

They seem very nice, I looked at them before I got my G, but it was hard to stomach the fuel economy and I didn’t need anything that big

Haha, yeah, it is not exactly miserly when it comes to fuel. Sounds great with the M agnaflow though, so totally worth i t.

I believe it, that 4.5 is a gem. I’ve driven a few Infinitis with that and it’s excellent

Sweet grab! They don’t have the Sport 2's in my size, only the first gen’s. I don’t like the tread design of the first gen’s.
I was eyeing these:
Ohtsu FP7000 @ $52/tire
Bridgestone Potenza RE760 @ $78/tire

When I bought it the tires were brand new all seasons so I’ve got some time on them before new ones are needed, but I should keep that in mind.

It really is. We’ve owned it 2.5 years and I haven’t even had the acoustic cover off of the engine yet. I t’s got 280k km on the clock and runs like it’s brand new . Swapped out the rotors with budget drilled slotted units, Akebono pads, and oil changes. That’s all it’s asked of me, aside from gas... and the rotors were mostly a vanity upgrade.
3 of our last 4 cars were German (if you count the Catera) so it’s been a pl ea sa nt change of pace.
I do need to do some maintenance soon though. N ew plugs, fluids, etc . Also 3 of the 4 lock actuators act up when it’s hot outside due to a design flaw so I’ll have to replace them or retrofit aftermarket actuators at some point, but winters coming so whatevs, lol.
No regrets, especially considering I scored it for something like 4 grand at a BHPH lot.
Owners kid bought it for himself, straight piped it after the cats, got sick of paying for gas and stuck it in the corner of the lot. It sits for a year until I show up with my wife and a newborn after seeing it on CL. I’ve never in my life had someone try harder to talk me out of buying something. “Did I talk to you about this car? Man, it’s loud. It has no mufflers, and it’s got a V8 and is really bad on gas. You sure you want me to get it out for you? It’s really loud. Like, really loud ” Of course I didn’t let him know it, but I was sold as soon as he turned the key. I t was really hard not to smile broadly. It WAS loud. Too loud in fact, but I’m the guy who drove a 740i around for a week on open headers and this thing was both underpriced and fully loaded . I was obviously u ndeterred, but you know I used it all to my advantage when discussion of price came up.
Oh yeah, I put a muffler on it too. Used magnaflow from the fine folks at The Muffler Man in Burnaby BC. Think it cost me $100 installed.
Shame that Infiniti has kinda fallen off in recent years. They really had something going back then . The FX, the G, the M45. They were totally swinging for the fences and were nailing it. T hen they started listening to advice from soccer moms or something and everything got rounder and softer and more mediocre. They should have kept their focus on directly competing with BMW and the rest. GTR all the things and dominate, but no...

I’m leaning towards them as well. The site I shop at has less than 10 reviews on it. And not many others on other sites.
